With GA4 connected, Peec AI sets its sessions and conversions beside the bot visits. Skald takes its visits from the log, so GA4 changes nothing for it.
Retrievals: answers that pulled the page in as a source. Citation rate: the inline citations per answer that used it. Sample figures for one page over 30 days. Skald's four counts are counted on their own roads and joined by page and day, never added together.

A GPTBot line from an address that is not on OpenAI's published list is filed under bots, as "claims to be GPTBot".
Count
No line is dropped. People, AI assistants, search engines, bots and scanners, and your own team each get a group, and the five groups sum to the lines in the log.
Withhold
A second, separate piece of code counts each day again. If its total does not match, that day is left out of the figures, and the page lists which days it left out.

Does Peec AI read server logs?
Yes, for AI bots. Crawl Insights connects to AWS CloudFront, Google Cloud CDN, Cloudflare, Vercel, WordPress or Akamai, takes a generic webhook, or reads an uploaded CSV or CLF file (Common Log Format, the line format Apache and nginx logs follow). Its docs say only known AI crawlers and agents are stored, and "all other traffic is discarded at ingest".
Does Peec AI check that GPTBot is real?
Not that we could find. Its docs say a request is stored when its user agent matches one of the 49 bots it lists, and we found no address check in them. Skald checks the address against OpenAI's published list and files a fake under bots as "claims to be GPTBot". How AI crawler checks work.
How does Peec AI count people who come from AI?
From your Google Analytics 4 property: sessions, conversions and revenue from AI assistants, by GA4's own grouping plus Peec's own detection. Skald counts these visits from the same server log, with nothing added to your pages. Both are a floor: some AI apps send no referrer.
