In short

skaldanalytics.com measures itself with Skald, on our own server. We see which pages are read and where visits come from. We do not use cookies to do it, and no outside company gets your visit.

What this site records

The server log

Like almost every web server, ours writes one line for each request: the time, the page, your IP address, your browser's name, and the page that sent you, if your browser says. Skald reads that log to count people, AI assistants, crawlers and bots. It is the method we describe on the features page.

The script tag

Each page also loads Skald's small script, /traffic-js/skald.js, from this site. It sends page views and clicks back to this site only. It sets no cookie, and it respects Do Not Track and Global Privacy Control.

What we do not do

  • No advertising, and no selling or sharing of visit data.
  • No third-party scripts, fonts or trackers. Every file on this site comes from this site.

If you sign up

The beta and free trial form asks for your name, work email, website and number of sites. We use them only to contact you about Skald, for example to set up your trial. We keep them on our own server and do not sell or share them.

The contact form asks for your name, email and message. We use them only to answer you, keep them on our own server, and do not sell or share them.

Both forms have one field that people never see. It is there to catch spam bots.

The "Is my site exposed?" check

When you check a site, our server reads that site's public home page once, like any visitor. The check service itself keeps nothing: the result is kept in memory for an hour, so a second check is instant, and then it is dropped. But like any web page, the address you open is written to our web server's log, and a result page's address includes the site you checked (/check/?url=…). That log is kept 14 days and read by our own analytics, Skald, which shows us which sites were checked. No cookies are set.

Downloading the PDF report

The result of a check is free on the page. If you download it as a PDF, we ask for your email and keep it, with your name and company if you give them, the site and the time, to know who downloaded the report and to follow up about Skald. If you tick "Email me when a new advisory matches my site", we also use your email for that, and only then; reply to any such email to stop it. The PDF is made in your browser from the result on the page; we send no email with it, and we ask for nobody else's address.

Some links take you elsewhere, with their own privacy rules: the code, issues and releases are on GitHub, and the live demo is served by GitHub Pages.

Questions and requests

To ask what we hold about you, or to have it deleted, open an issue on GitHub and ask for a private way to reach us. Do not post personal details in a public issue.

Skald itself can delete one person everywhere with one command. Read more about who builds Skald, or see how to run it yourself.
